TELL ME A STORY : Communicating with impact through the art of storytelling

Introductory-level

Storytelling is a transferable skill-set, one which is an asset when we need to express complicated or personal ideas. Whether you’re applying for a job, delivering a presentation, or working on a team, storytelling is an excellent way to build strong connections between you and your audience. Beyond just proving your point, a great story serves as a touchstone – an entry point for your audience.

As an art form, oral-tradition storytelling is among the oldest forms of human expression -- however, in the past few years, autobiographical storytelling has been clearly become a re-emerging trend. Shows like The Moth, Risk, or Montreal's own Confabulation have helped to repopularize this classic artform.

In this workshop, we will work on the basics of true life storytelling. We will start by quashing that anxiety that you have no stories worth telling, and then move on to finding and structuring those stories that work for you.

Matt Goldberg

Matt is the founder and executive director of Confabulation -- a Montreal-based non-profit, dedicated to the art of true-life storytelling. He has also been the host of the Montreal Confabulation since its founding in 2010. Matt is a Montreal-based comedian, writer, actor, and storyteller, as well as a founder and featured performer with Uncalled For -- an award-winning Canadian sketch and improv comedy troupe, based in Montreal and Toronto. He hosts the Confabulation podcast and has performed at all three Confabulations (Montreal, Toronto and Victoria), as well as at This Really Happened, Yarn, CBC Books and Just for Laughs. Matt teaches English literature and storytelling at Vanier College, in Montreal.
